EQUAL Policy Groups

EQUAL is defined as a laboratory for testing new ideas and new innovations tackling inequality and discrimination in the labour market.

In order to facilitate the mainstreaming of this innovation, EQUAL DP's work with their peers in national policy networks, these national networks provide an opportunity for dissemination, networking, and learning.

The policy networks at national level filter into the European Policy Networks. Go To European Commission Extranet for more information on the EU thematic Networks

The 22 Round II DPs are quite diverse in terms of the work programmes they are engaged in or indeed the groups of people they are focusing on. Notwithstanding this, there are a number of common policy and practice themes that bind DPs together. The challenge for DPs over the remainder of the programme is to work collectively within these thematic groups, either to share learning, review each others practice or more interestingly to develop joint products.

Thematic Possibilities in Round II
On 7 October 2005, the NSS organised the first meeting for Round 2 project Co-ordinators. Representatives from mainstream agencies, the National Disability Authority and the NDP Gender Equality Unit, presented at the event. There was also a presentation on the Ricker Scale, a tool developed to quantifiably measure progress towards the achievement of self-determined 'soft' outcomes, for example, increasing self confidence, improving interpersonal relationships.

The NSS delivered a presentation on thematic level activity in Round 2 of EQUAL and the day also provided the first formal opportunity for projects to discuss opportunities for undertaking both formal and informal thematic activity.
