EQUAL Closing Conference took place on the 9th of October 2007 in the Guinness Store House, Dublin.
- Communities of Practice (CoP) on Gender Mainstreaming and Quality programme management
Over the next 15 months Ireland will take the lead in two of the European Commission funded Communities of Practice.
Communities of Practice within EQUAL involve a range of Managing Authorities, Support Structures and EQUAL projects. From an Irish perspective, we have taken the co-ordination role on the Quality Programme Management CoP and will be working along side the Belgian and Lithuanian Managing Authorities. The rationale for this community of practice along with the Gender Mainstreaming Group is to establish through peer review and action learning, bench marks of good practice in relation to each area. - Did you know that 2007 is the 50th anniversary of the European Social Fund?
Over the next 12 months we will update you on activities to mark the year. 2007 looks set to be a busy year, along the 50th anniversary of the ESF it is also the European Year for Equal Opportunities, the National Co-ordinator for the European Year in Ireland is the Equality Authority for more information on the year check out www.equality.ie - EQUAL products database
Throughout Europe, EQUAL development partnerships (DPs) have delivered thousands of products. Some of those have a potential and an added value that make them useful for other stakeholders, elsewhere in Europe. Some of the products perfected by the DPs can be accessed from the EU database. - IdeasBank - www.ideasbank-equal.info - has been developed to act as a "virtual innovation centre", a space where research, innovative tools and practices are housed. This accessible centre provides policy makers and practioners with a range of workable options in terms of responding to real challenges whether that be in terms of developing HR practice to accommodate a diverse workforce or gaining an understanding of how to develop and formalize real interagency co-operation. Delivering
a More Inclusive Workplace: Innovations from EQUAL (September
2007)
This handbook introduces the successful innovations that were devised and implemented by a network of seven EQUAL projects to give practical effect to national policy aspirations concerning making the labour market more inclusive and open to marginalised or excluded groups of people. The innovations documented concern using competence-based recruitment and progression; implementing flexible work arrangements; providing holistic and personalised supports to facilitate access to and participation in the labour market; and, embedding equality within the workplace.
The handbook is accompanied by a brief DVD of employer and participant comments , which can be obtained by contacting the Equal National Support Structure.

This report presents the interim findings of a study of partnership being undertaken under the EQUAL Community Initiative, which has operated in Ireland since 1999. The issues highlighted here will inform the next stages of this study. A final report will be made available in September 2007.
